Today is Ascension Sunday and we take a look at the account of the recently resurrected Christ being taken up or ascending to heaven.  This account is described at the very end of the Gospel of Luke and at the very beginning of the Acts of the Apostles.  Why and how is Jesus’ ascension significant at the end of Jesus’ earthly ministry and at the beginning of the mission of the church?  And what does it mean for us as we seek to be the church in and for the world today?

Scripture passages: Luke 24:44-53; Acts 1:1-11
