Bearing the Light

Today we spend time with Matthew’s version of Jesus’ move to Galilee, where he called his first disciples to “follow him.” What does Jesus mean by “Repent”? Why and how did those fisherfolks respond so quickly and decisively to Jesus’ invitation and how are we to understand Christ’s invitation to a new way of life in this day and age?

Come and See

Today we have the joy of celebrating the baptism of baby Julian! We’ll ponder Jesus’ invitation to discipleship, “come and see,” reflecting on what that means for Julian’s life as well as for each of our own.

Sitz Im Leben

Today Rev. Dan Meyer-Abbott brings us a message about Biblical understanding. The “Sitz im Leben” (“Situation in Life”)* in which a Biblical passage was written can help us understand its meaning. Rev. Dan takes us through examples from Paul’s teachings and reflects on how they are being misinterpreted and misapplied today, in our own Sitz im Leben.

What Do You Fear? – Fear Doesn’t Stop Us

Today we have Adam Marshall bringing us the message as we examine the classic text for Epiphany:  the journey and arrival of the Magi. His first-person narrative as one of the Magi provides an insider’s view of what their journey and visit may have been like, and how they encountered, then avoided, the unpredictable Herod. We consider how the Magi journeyed through and in spite of fear. How do we, as people of faith, respond when our fears are real and justified?
