Sermons on Genesis (Page 2)

Where do you think God might be leading you in the face of these feelings of separation?

Don’t Worry

Today’s sermon is the Genesis narrative of Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar. How does God meet us in our pan, anxiety, and estrangement?
In The Beginning

In the Beginning

This Sunday, we launch into a new sermon series. Our current reality of social isolation in the midst of a pandemic is not the only example of widescale stress and anxiety on the human species. Psychologists and historians continue to point out that one expression of humanity seems constant across such periods of stress—creativity.

We Believe: God

This week we begin a new series on The Apostles’ Creed, one of the earliest statements of the Christian faith. We will explore the opening phrase: “I believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.” Is it possible that everything we know about the God of the universe is still incomplete?

The Creation Stories

This second Sunday in our series on reading the Bible, we explore the creation stories in Genesis and consider important questions about how we understand these early narratives about the beginnings of the world.

Why Stewardship?

The month of October is traditionally the season where we focus on Stewardship. We begin with an important exploration about why stewardship is important as a kick-off to an exploration of Clayton Christensen’s book, “How Will You Measure Your Life?”

Daring to Dream

This Sunday we continue our series on Les Misérables with a look at dreams and facing those times when our dreams seem unreachable.

Legacy

This Sunday, we conclude our sermon series that journeys through the book of Genesis as guided by our Revised Common Lectionary, exploring the idea of legacy. What kind of legacy have Abraham and Sarah left to Isaac? How will he carry it on? What does it teach us about our own faith? Our own legacies? Rites of Passage

This week’s story continues the journey of Abraham’s family with the familiar story of “the binding of Isaac.”

Weaning

This Sunday, we continue our sermon series that journeys through the book of Genesis as guided by our Revised Common Lectionary. This week’s story continues the journey of Abraham and Sarah and a difficult situation where a mother and son are cast out into the desert.

Birth

This Sunday, we continue our sermon series that journeys through the book of Genesis as guided by our Revised Common Lectionary. We welcome Beckie Henselmeier, who explores Sarah’s response to an unlikely prediction.
