Today we celebrate the first Sunday of Advent, a four week season that leads into Christmas. Advent means “coming” and throughout this season we will be invited to prepare our hearts, spirits and lives for the coming of the Christ Child at Christmas. This year our theme is, “How Does a Weary World Rejoice?” It’s a rich and wonderful theme that will allow us to acknowledge the ways that we and our world are weary AND it will invite us to contemplate joy. What is joy? How do we receive it? Is it even possible in these difficult times? How does joy change us? How does it change the world?
