Stephen Ministry is a caring ministry and an extension of pastoral care provided by trained lay members to individuals that need extra support and a guiding hand during a time of struggle. It may be someone that is experiencing loss, grief, crisis, or a life transition. PBUMC cares and so do our Stephen Ministers!
The Stephen Ministry program at PB UMC began in 2019, but the Stephen Ministry System that undergirds the training and core of this vital program is an international non-profit educational program that started in 1975 under the leadership of Kenneth Haugk. Stephen Ministry congregations equip and empower lay caregivers—called Stephen Ministers—to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting.
