The Wesley brothers had it right. They went to where people were, to where life and all of its challenges seemed most present. They went outside the church and met the people and their circumstances. John preached outside at a time when this was scandalous, and Charles (arguably) wrote song lyrics to popular pub songs. And they reached people!
Using the British spelling of the word “draft” (and pronounced the same way) this title likely brings about visions of frosted mugs of either beer or root beer (pick your poison) and is indicative of the location where we meet: a local bar. The idea of “draft” also speaks to the ongoing evolution of our faith. At any given point, I believe we continually re-draft or re-create our faith.
So what is “Draughts of Faith?” It is a theological Q&A, an informal setting to get together with your Pastor and others outside the church to participate in conversation related to the “nuts and bolts” of faith and life. Check it out on the 3rd Thursday of each month (with occasional re-schedules) any time between 8pm-10pm at Fred’s Mexican Café (on Garnet). I’ll be on “the patio!”
Draughts of Faith is an opportunity to talk about faith and theology with your Pastor in an informal setting in the community. Please come as you are, invite friends, and be spiritually fed!
