Each year, our congregation has a system by which we: make decisions on annual budgets including pastoral compensation; nominate and elect leaders and representatives; hear reports form ministry candidates, church staff, and committees; and more. Outlined in ¶246-252 of the Book of Discipline, the purpose of the Charge Conference is “to review and evaluate the total mission and ministry of the church, receive reports, and adopt objectives and goals recommended by the church council that are in keeping with the objectives of The United Methodist Church.”
Most years, we choose to hold a Church Conference instead. According to ¶248, a Church Conference may be convened instead, “to encourage broader participation by members of the church…” This extends voting eligibility to all professing members of PB UMC.
This year’s Church Conference will be on Tuesday, November 5th at 6:00pm, and we will be led by our District Superintendent, Rev. John Farley. Read about the Simple Board Governance proposal here. Then come and hear what your congregation has been doing over the course of 2019, and make your voice heard for the work of 2020!
